The Dancing Pandas have been nominated for a Blogger Recognition Award by April of Rodes on the Road. We are truly humbled and honored to have been noticed by other more established bloggers like the Rodes.

Who nominated us?

The Rodes are a very active family that loves to travel. They enjoy seeing parts of New York state just as much as they love traveling internationally and learning about other parts of the world. Roads on the Road was created to inspire other families to travel and share their experiences along the way.

What is the Blogger Recognition Award?

The Bloggers Recognition Award is an award given to bloggers by bloggers to recognize their writing effort and work product. Lets face it, blogging for most folks is a part time job that takes more than 40 hours a week. We write because we are passionate about our topic and truly enjoy sharing our experiences and stories. Ultimately, for us it is about journaling our journey and hopefully inspiring others along the way.

What are the Rules of the Blogger Recognition Award?

  1. Once you have been nominated, make a post like this one and thank your nominator with a shout out
  2. In the post, share a short story about how your blog started
  3. Share two pieces of advice to bloggers just starting out
  4. Nominate 15 other bloggers for the award as well!

How did the Dancing Pandas get started?

Rob and I had been traveling all of our lives. Getting out and seeing other parts of the world has always been a priority for us right from the beginning of our relationship.

A few years ago, I had reached the top of my career ladder and Monday mornings were starting to feel like a treadmill. We sold the house, sold/donated all of our possessions and took off traveling full-time. Journaling the journey along the way was something that we wanted to do, so the blog was born.

People always want to know, how do we do this? Well, Rob started travel hacking many years ago. Meaning that he learned how to earn and generate points and miles to allow us to travel in style yet on a budget. We hope to pass some of these ideas on to our readers so they too can see the world in style yet on a budget.

Advice for Bloggers Just Starting Out

Blogging and all the other activities that come with it (maintenance of website, social media, etc.,) can take up a lot of time. Our first bit of advice: Set goals for your blog that are SMART. Meaning, the goals are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bound. The realistic component is very important. Therefore be kind to yourself and do not be disappointed when things take longer than you think – they do!

Our second bit of advice: Get an SEO plugin as soon as possible. We did not do this, and now have to go back and update many of our posts. We use the free version of Yoast SEO which works well for us.

SEO stands for “search engine optimization”. Have you ever wondered how search engines like Google decide on what is listed first in a search result? Well if we follow and apply the SEO plugin “rules” in our posts, they have a much better chance of ending up higher in the ranking of the search results than if we do not.
