According to Wikipedia: A virtual private network(VPN) extends a private network across a public network, and enables users to blah, blah, blah. Basically, a VPN is a secure tunnel between your device and the website you want to browse. When I say secure I mean encrypted so no looky-loos can ‘read’ your data. When you use public Wi-Fi outside of your password protected, trusted network, you are vulnerable to sharing everything you type with a stranger.

Interesting. When we started travelling we used a VPN simply because we wanted to log into Netflix. That was 5 years ago and I think we used Hola which stopped working at some point.
Now we don’t bother because we can access Netflix from anywhere. But interesting to read this post, I always thought VPNs were dodgy and not 100% legit…
Hi Frank, No totally legit and has saved our bacon quite a few times. Very nice to meet fellow nomad travelers!
