Vegan Restaurants in Sofia Bulgaria

Bulgaria's Grand Hotel with flowers all around it

Throughout our week in Sofia we discovered many good  vegan restaurants.  And some that were not that great. Surprisingly there were a few to choose from.  Here is our list of vegan restaurants in Sofia:

Soul Kitchen

Soul Kitchen is a vegan high end restaurant.  If you want to splurge a bit and eat food that is absolutely out of this world, we would highly recommend it.  The menu changes daily.  There are also raw vegan options.  Situated in a cozy building they have seating inside and in their garden.  Filling up most nights, a reservation is suggested.

Loving Hut

Desserts at Loving Hut

Loving Hut is a vegan casual cafe which became my favorite very quickly.  The dishes are ridiculously inexpensive and the food is delicious.  The Mac n Cheese was our favorite along with the homemade “sausage” pizza.  They have 3 different raw cracker options. The quinoa option was my favorite.  I still dream about their selection of mouthwatering deserts…  The cafe is located in the center of town next to the  National Opera House.  The atmosphere is casual and “woke”.

Edgy Veggy

Eggy Veggie Burger

Edgy Veggy is a vegan cafe with raw options.  Casual fare in a pretty cafe setting is what this place is about.  Burritos, tacos, salads come with a twist and a flare.  They also have delicious deserts which would make you think that you are cheating on your vegan diet.

Sun Moon

Sun Moon

Sun Moon is a vegetarian restaurant with many wonderful vegan options.  In fact if you want a menu with only vegan food listed – they have one!  The Kebobs were my favorite and the artisan breads divine.  There is a lovely garden in the back to eat in.   This was the restaurant that we stumbled into on our fist night in Sofia.  They were closing, but thankfully the manager took pity on us and invited us in.  On that night we were fed very quickly.  On subsequent occasions, due to being very busy, we have had to wait 30-45 minutes to be fed.

Soma Vital Food

Soma Vital Pancake

Soma Vital Food is a vegan cafe situated on the 5th floor of a yoga center.   These folks are serious about their food being organic and locally sourced as much as possible.  I have heard this cafe being called a “cult”. Which I do not agree with.  They are just committed to the belief that  eating good, fresh ingredients fuels our life and well being.

The setting is casual, bright and yoga centered.  Their food is varied offering smoothies and juices.  As well as salads, delicious soups and main dishes.  Desserts are also divine.

Veda House

Veda House Logo

Veda House is a tea house with vegetarian and vegan food options.  It is a very cute place with a zen vibe.  There is a little outdoor space on the side of the building.   A proper tea house area is on the first floor. And an upstairs with bean bag chairs that is a shoe free zone rounds out the space.

Unfortunately the night that we visited, there was only one visually frantic server and one cook on staff.  It took an hour for us to be fed.  Actually Rob got his dish first and about 10 minutes later my dish finally arrived.  I had the tofu scramble which was good but not remarkable.  Rob had the pasta which was equally uneventful.  We wanted to give this place another chance but ran out of time.

Dream House

Sunday Brunch Dream House

Dream House is an eatery in a bar like setting above a busy street in the center of the city.  They offer a vegetarian menu with some vegan options.  On Sundays they have a buffet.  When we arrived the dishes from the buffet were empty.  Given this development, the staff allowed us to order from the menu.

Although the reviews for Dream House are very good, our experience was not.  The staff were lovely but the food tasted bland and uneventful.  Perhaps they were having an off night.  With so many other great options in the city we did not give them a second chance.

So there you have it.  A few eatery choices for your visit to Sofia.  Of course not as many options as we had in Chiang Mai, but still enough to satisfy our hunger pains.

Have you been to any of these vegan restaurants in Sofia?  Did you have others to add to the list?  Please drop us a line.  We would love to hear about your experiences.
