Most of us are here to relax and not navigate around all of the noisy crowds. So this time, when we visited for a month we decided to focus on finding some of the best secret beaches in Bali, so you don’t have to do the searching.
You can just arrive, and start soaking up the sun, squishing the softest of white sands under your toes, snorkeling, diving and surfing in quiet and secluded places without the noise and distractions. Just breathing in the fresh air, catching some rays and enjoying the waves lapping at your feet.

1. Diamond Beach (Nusa Penida)
Overview: Diamond Beach is one of the best beaches in Bali. Why you ask? Well, it is a stunning, white sandy cove on the eastern coast of Nusa Penida, known for its dramatic cliffs and turquoise waters. The beach is relatively secluded, with a steep descent via a staircase carved into the rock, making it a bit challenging to reach. But in our opinion it’s well worth the sweat!
Where to Stay:
- Luxury- Tropical Glamping: This boutique resort has bungalows right on the cliff overlooking the stunning ocean. This resort is just a 5 minute scooter ride to Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach. Check out their instagram with over 50 million views – this is a secluded retreat, which is absolutely priceless! Book well in advance as it books up fast. Prices are in the $600 USD per night range depending on the dates that you choose.
- Mid Range – Aloka Penida: This hotel is right on the cliff overlooking the cliffs of Diamond Beach. There are different styles of accommodations including villas. A one bedroom villa is approximately $60 USD per night with breakfast included. There is also a restaurant that has breathtaking views of the ocean below and offers Asian focused dishes with vegetarian and vegan options.
- Budget – Kepaon GARI inn: Simple hotel at budget prices with accommodating staff and within walking distance to Diamond Beach. Prices are under $30 USD for 2 with breakfast and WIFI included.
Where to Eat:
- Eastside Penida Kitchen & Bar: A local eatery offering fresh healthy food and Balinese dishes in a comfortable atmosphere.
Most accommodations in this area, due to it’s isolation, offer dining options. Therefore, we recommend checking with them directly as they may be able to create the perfect dish that you are craving – be it freshly caught seafood or a vegan dish.
2. Atuh Beach (Nusa Penida)
Overview: Close to Diamond Beach, Atuh Beach is another one of the hidden beaches in Bali that few know about. It is one of the secret gems on Nusa Penida, flanked by towering cliffs and is accessed via a moderately steep trail, but the reward is soft, white sand and crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming.
Where to Stay:
Atuh Beach is within walking distance to Diamond Beach, therefore the Diamond Beach accommodations are repeated here with some additions.

- Fisherman’s hut: Serving fresh, local seafood and traditional Balinese meals right by the beach. Try the octopus with homemade simbal and of course the fresh young coconut! And if you are vegan like me (or vegetarian) there are quite a few noodle and veggie or rice and veggie options.
3. Menjangan Island
Overview: Off Bali’s northwest coast, Menjangan Island is famous for its crystal-clear waters, rich marine life, and a white sand spit reminiscent of the Maldives. It’s perfect for snorkeling and diving, with excellent coral reefs and opportunities to spot turtles.
In addition, the island is known for the local deer that swim over from the mainland. It is quite the sight! This is definitely one of the best secret beaches in Bali. However, it is not that easy to get to – but hey that keeps the crowds away and you may just have the sand spit all to yourselves.
Where to Stay:
- Luxury – Plataran Menjangan Resort & Spa: A luxury resort offering direct access to Menjangan Island (by boat) and stunning beachfront views. The price of this resort is approximately $200 USD for 2 people with breakfast, but of course depends on your dates.
- Mid Range – Mimpi Resort Menjangan: Boutique dive, spa and hot spring resort, situated next to the water. Balinese villas range in price from $50 USD – $100 USD depending on size and time of year, for 2 people with breakfast and free WIFI.
- Budget – Maha Nusa Menjangan: Comfortable budget hotel with breakfast around $15 USD per night. The hotel organizes diving and snorkeling trips to Menjangan Island as well as other activities. There is also a restaurant offering home cooked meals.
Where to Eat:
- Dapoer Chandra: Good international dishes including seafood, chicken curries and vegetarian options. The restaurant has a great vibe and is female owned.
- Pantai Restaurant: The main dining spot at The Menjangan Resort, offering a selection of seafood and international dishes.
4. Bias Tugel Beach (Padang Bai)
Overview: Bias Tugel Beach is a small, secluded cove with soft, white sand making it one of the best secret beaches in Bali. Its peaceful surroundings make it a perfect escape from the busier beaches in Bali. The beach is great for sunbathing and snorkeling, though it’s slightly challenging to reach due to a rocky path.
Where to Stay:
- Mid Range – OK Divers Resort & Spa: Located in Padang Bai, it’s the perfect place to relax after a day at Bias Tugel. This resort is 2 km from the Bias Tugel Beach and is a 30 min walk. The hotel is located across the street from a pier on Padang Bai Beach and has many amenities around it. It is also a 7 minute walk from the Blue Lagoon Beach. Price ranges around $90 USD for 2 people with breakfast and WIFI.
- Mid Range – Absolute Scuba Bali Padangbai – PADI 5 Star Dive Resort: Located in Padang Bai, this hotel offers large comfortable rooms. There is a pool and the hotel is located across the street from Padang Bai Beach. Prices are around $45 USD for 2 people with breakfast and WIFI.
- Budget – Bamboo Paradise Guesthouse and Hostel: If you want to be very close to Bias Tugel Beach, then this is the best option as it is a 6 minute walk down to the beach. Price for a bed in the 6 bed dorm room is $11 which includes breakfast and WIFI or $30 for 2 people in a private room with breakfast and WIFI.
Where to Eat:
- Mimba foods corner: Nice patio with a view with good local dishes and seafood.
- Warung Harmoni: A family run restaurant with well priced simple dishes that range from chicken curries to seafood.
- Martini’s Warung: A simple beach side restaurant offering delicious seafood and local dishes.
5. Melasti Beach
Overview: Melasti Beach, located in the Ungasan area, is a relatively unknown gem in southern Bali. It has pristine white sand, clear water, and stunning cliffs that create a picturesque backdrop. This is one of those secret beaches in Bali that locals like to keep for themselves!
Where to Stay:
- Luxury – Karma Kandara Resort: A luxurious cliff side resort offering access to a private beach near Melasti. Prices range around $450 USD per night.
- Luxury – Umana Bali, LXR Hotels & Resorts: This Hilton property offers large private villas with pools that sit on the cliff overlooking Melasti Beach. Prices range around $600 USD per person. Hilton points fluctuate and may offer a better deal. This resort is a 18 minute walk from Melasti Beach.
- Mid Range – Villa Valeria: These villas are quite large and offer comfortable beds with a balcony. There is also a communal pool. The walk down to Melasti Beach is about 35 minutes as the hotel is 2.3 km away from the beach. Prices are about $75 USD with free WIFI. Most of the villas have a kitchenette.
Where to Eat:
- Warung Danish Melasti Beach: Simple cafe with local dishes. Try the highly recommended cashew chicken with the freshly squeezed pineapple juice.
- Magus Warung: Newly opened club with it’s own pool right on the beach with free sun beds. Food is locally inspired and delicious.
- Tropical Temptation – Adult Only Beach Club: A trendy beach club with a global eclectic menu, located close to Melasti Beach. On the pricier side.
6. Virgin Beach (Karangasem)
Overview: Known for its pristine white sand and laid-back atmosphere, Virgin Beach is one of the best hidden beaches in Bali on it’s eastern coast. The beach offers a relaxing escape with minimal crowds and clear, calm waters perfect for swimming.
Unfortunately, there are no recommended hotels next to Virgin Beach. Therefore we recommend renting a scooter so that you can stay in a great hotel and have access to Virgin Beach – one of the best secret beaches in Bali!
Where to Stay:
- Mid Range – Puri Bagus Candidasa Resort: Puri Bagus Candidasa offers villa accommodations with views of the resort’s gardens or beach. Its facilities include an outdoor swimming pool for dive training and 2 yoga venues. Villas start at $100 USD with breakfast and WIFI included.
- Budget – Jepun Didulu Cottages RedPartner: Located 10 minutes’ drive from Virgin Beach, these bungalows have a flat-screen satellite TV, a terrace and a seating area. There is a fully-equipped kitchen, a shared pool and WIFI throughout the property. Prices start at $35 USD per bungalow.
Where to Eat:
- Fishermen Cafe: Located right on Virgin Beach, this cafe offers fresh seafood and has reasonable prices.
- Seaside Cafe Paon Pesisir: Simple family run cafe right on the beach offers grilled seafood. Favorites are grilled Mahi Mahi and grilled calamari.
- Warung Kokak: A beachfront restaurant serving freshly caught seafood and local Balinese cuisine. Known for their grilled Mahi Mahi and cold beer.
7. Keramas Beach
Overview: For those seeking a less traditional beach experience, Keramas Beach is famous for its unique black sand and world-class surfing conditions. It’s located on the east coast and is perfect for surfers looking to catch some serious waves. This is one of the local’s favorite secret beaches in Bali for surfing.
Where to Stay:
- Luxury – Komaneka at Keramas Beach: A luxury resort known for its excellent surf breaks and oceanfront accommodations with panoramic views of rice paddy fields, Indian Ocean and Mount Agung. The beachfront property features an open-air restaurant, a beach side swimming pool and free WiFi. Villas start at $250 USD with breakfast included.
- Mid Range – Komune Resort and Beach Club: Set on the beachfront of Keramas Beach, this 4-star accommodation is a 6-minute drive from Bali Safari and Marine Park. The resort offers an outdoor pool, a tropical garden and a beach side restaurant. Rooms start at $120 USD without breakfast, but WIFI is offered throughout the resort.
- Budget – Blue Coco Guest House: This budget accommodation is in a garden setting with all units offering a private bathroom, air conditioning and a desk. There is a shared pool and breakfast for an additional $5 USD per person. Prices for the units were $17 USD per 2 people at time of writing.
Where to Eat:
- Warong Legong: This is one of my favorite restaurants in Bali! The place is set on the edge of a rice field and has an amazing vibe. The food is delicious and fresh with many options for vegans and vegetarians. They will do pick up and drop off from your nearby hotel for free.
- Timur Kitchen at Komaneka at Keramas Beach: A pretty open-air restaurant set on the edge of a rice paddy on one side and the Keramas Beach on the other. Diverse food options in a great setting.
- Komune Beach Club: Serving fresh seafood and healthy meals, the beach club is the perfect place to refuel after a surf session.
8. Amed Beach
Overview: Amed Beach, with its volcanic black sand, offers a serene atmosphere for divers and snorkelers. It’s well-known for its coral reefs and the Japanese shipwreck, which can be easily explored from the shore. Locals speak in hushed tones about this place as they consider it to be one of the best hidden beaches in Bali.
Where to Stay:
- Luxury – The Griya Villas and Spa: Luxury villas with stunning views of the water and rice fields. There is an indoor and an outdoor pool and the resort is in a perfect location for all the attractions in the area. The price starts at $250 USD per room and breakfast is included.
- Mid Range – Siddhartha Oceanfront Resort & Spa: A luxury boutique hotel with stunning views of the ocean and proximity to Amed’s top diving spots. Entry prices start at $120 USD which include breakfast and a free 30 minute massage per stay.
- Budget – Coconut Beach Bungalows & Warung: This budget hotel and cafe are located right on the beach. The hotel has private rooms with a private bathroom at $16 USD for 2 people without breakfast.
Where to Eat:
- La Plage Amed: This cafe is located right on Amed beach and has traditional Balinese dishes with a beachy vibe.
- Galanga Cafe: This cafe is about a 20 minute walk from Amed Beach and has seating in the garden and offers Indonesian fusion food with fresh grilled fish, vegetarian and vegan options with coconut ice cream.
- Joli Best View Cafe: You can get beautiful views of the volcano and the ocean from this cafe. Many people come for the sunset. Delicious, fresh local food is served with vegan and vegetarian options as well.
- Warung Enak: A popular spot in Amed, serving fresh seafood and traditional Balinese fare.
9. Green Bowl Beach
Overview: Green Bowl Beach is a hidden cove located in the southern part of Bali. It’s often overlooked due to the steep descent of over 300 steps, but once you reach the bottom, you’ll find clear water, soft white sand, and caves that offer shade making this one of the best secret beaches in Bali.
Keep in mind that the current here can be pretty strong and the waves are good enough for surfing.
However, accommodations near Green Bowl beach are unavailable. Therefore, we recommend renting a moped to be able to get from your hotel/villa to this beach.
Where to Stay:
- Luxury-Pandawa Cliff Estate: A luxury villa resort located nearby, offering panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. Each villa is unique in size and what it offers but all have it’s own private pool. The place is only a 30 min drive to the airport, but is an 8 min drive (or 55 min walk) to Green Bowl Beach as it is 3.7 km away. The high prices here varies by unit and time of year of booking.
- Mid Range – Salty Breeze Bali: A funky hotel set in a garden setting with a shared pool with huts and other rooms available. The hotel is 3.2 km from Green Bowl Beach which is about an 8 minute moped ride to the steps. The price starts at $60 USD per room and offers free WIFI.
- Budget – Pandawa Beach Homestay: This Homestay is in an area filled with cafes and other amenities. It has a terrace with garden views and a shared pool. The guest rooms come with air conditioning, flat-screen TV and a fridge. The attached bathroom has shower facilities and breakfast is included for approximately $19 USD.
Where to Eat:
- Warung Anis: A small cafe located next to the Green Bowl Beach parking lot serving traditional local Indonesian dishes at fair prices. The nasi goreng is their top seller.
- Wood Shack: is a cafe with a nice open air vibe that serves traditional Balinese and Indonesian dishes with some healthier options like their Wood Smashed Avo plate.
- Warung Turis: is another local cafe offering fresh local dishes with fresh juices and coconuts.
10. Nyang Nyang Beach
Overview: Nyang Nyang Beach is one of the best hidden beaches in Bali, located on the Bukit (southern) Peninsula. This is a fabulous beach to catch a sunrise but requires a bit of a hike to get to. However, the soft sand and clear water make it worth the effort. You’ll often find this place completely empty.
For swimming, the best time to come is 2 hours before or after high tide. This beach is also well known for it’s great surf.
If you have a moped and are confident with it, then you can ride it down and up the beach. Beware it is very steep!
Where to Stay:
- Luxury – Bulgari Resort Bali: A luxurious cliff side resort offering private access to the beach. This resort is priced at approximately $1800 per night.
- Luxury – Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa: This resort offers stunning views of the ocean in the distance and has a romantic vibe. It is about an 18 minute drive down to Nyang Nyang Beach. The price is approximately $350 USD per night.
- Mid Range – Swiss-Belresort Pecatu: This hip hotel has bright rooms, flat screen TVs, refrigerators and offers free breakfast and WIFI. Upgraded rooms have a balcony. There is a nice shared pool on the premises. The price is around $60 USD per night.
- Budget – LoTide Surf Camps Uluwatu: In this hostel there are 6 person dorm rooms at $16 USD per night and 10 person dorm rooms at $14 USD per night. Both types of dorm rooms have air conditioning and WIFI. This hostel is great for it’s proximity to Nyang Nyang Beach. There is also a shared pool.
- Budget – Home-Bience Hostel: For a slightly more comfortable hostel we recommend staying at Home-Bience Hostel, although it is an 18 minute drive from Nyang Nyang Beach. The price is $15 USD for a bed in a 6 person dorm room with breakfast, air conditioning and WIFI all included. A private room with a king bed, air conditioning, private bathroom, breakfast, and WIFI is $32 USD for 2 people.
Where to Eat:
- Warung Party People in Bali: This cafe is right on the beach and offers sunbeds for rent as well as cold beer, coconuts and local dishes and snacks. A great place to watch the surfers.
- Utilis Bali Bar: A cafe right on the beach with cold beer and drinks. The menu is typical beach fare with grilled meats and sandwiches. The owner has his friendly dogs there which adds so much to the atmosphere.
- Nyang Nyang Bar & Restaurant: Offering stunning views and a menu of fresh seafood and international dishes.
