Best Time to Visit Afitos Beaches

Afitos beaches have a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The ideal time to visit is during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October).
During these months, the weather is warm, and the village is less crowded compared to the peak summer season of July and August.
Our Favorite Afitos Beach Halkidki

Afitos beaches are known for having crystal clear water and that super fine white sand which is difficult to find in Europe!
Here are the 3 Afitos beaches that are the closest to the village. Each has their own personality. So, if you like a party, head to Afitos Beach. If you are a family with small kids then Varkes Beach is best for you. And if your thing is snorkeling, then head to Liosi Beach.
Afitos Beach

Why Visit: Located directly below the village, Afitos Beach has crystal clear turquoise water and a mix of sandy and rocky shores. The beach is well-organized with sun loungers and umbrellas, and several beach bars offer refreshments and local delicacies.
This place can get busy and is a bit of a party place. So, my favorite thing to do here is walk up and down the shore with my feet in the water, sometimes dunking myself in to cool off.
How to Get There: Accessing Afitos Beach involves a descent from the village center. Visitors can take the steps leading down to the beach, with scenic views of the coastline. It’s advisable to wear comfortable footwear for the walk as what goes down must go back up!
What Sets It Apart: The proximity to the village allows visitors to combine a day at Afitos beach with exploring this town’s traditional architecture and delicious tavernas.
Varkes Beach

Why Visit: Situated to the west of Afitos Beach, Varkes Beach is known for its shallow, calm water, making it ideal for families with young children. The sandy beach is less crowded, offering a more tranquil experience….although there are those children…..
How to Get There: Varkes Beach is a leisurely walk up from Afitos Beach.
What Sets It Apart: The serene environment and shallow water make it perfect for relaxation and safe swimming for kids and families. Although there were times – offseason – when I had the beach to myself!
Liosi Beach

Why Visit: Located to the southeast of Afitos Beach, Liosi Beach also has crystal-clear water and a pebbly shoreline. The beach is organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, and a nearby bar provides snacks and drinks. Keep in mind that the beach bar is quite pricey!
How to Get There: Liosi Beach is a 15-minute walk from Afitos Beach or village.
What Sets It Apart: The clear water is ideal for snorkeling enthusiasts looking to explore marine life.

While Afitos itself has a fabulous coastline, the surrounding area within a short drive is dotted with equally beautiful and often less crowded beaches worth exploring. Here are the top beaches to visit within 30 minutes to 1 hour from Afitos Beach.
1. Possidi Beach

Why Visit: Known for its unique sandbar that stretches out into the sea, Possidi Beach has a dramatic and picturesque beach experience with fewer crowds. It is actually my absolutely favorite sandy spot near Afitos Beach.
How to Get There: A 40-minute drive from Afitos Beach on the west side of Kassandra Peninsula.
What Sets It Apart: Offers a quiet escape with some of the most stunning sunsets in Afitos Kassandra Greece! I mean, look at that stunning crystal clear water. In addition, the area has the historic Possidi Lighthouse, built in 1864, and the ruins of ancient Mende close by.

How to Get to and Around Afitos Kassandra Greece

By Air: The nearest airport is Thessaloniki International Airport (SKG), approximately 70 kilometers from Afitos Beach.
By Car: Renting a car is a convenient option, allowing flexibility to explore the region. The drive from Thessaloniki to Afitos Beach takes about an hour via the A24 and A25 highways.
By Bus: To travel to Afitos, Halkidiki by public bus, you can take a KTEL Chalkidikis bus from Thessaloniki to Afitos.
You will first need to get to the KTEL Halkidiki Bus Station in Thessaloniki (9 km away). Buses operate hourly and the journey takes 1 hour and 49 minutes, costing between €10 and €14.
You can also take a bus from Afitos to Thessaloniki, which runs every 2 hours and takes about 1 hour 50 minutes, with tickets costing between €10 and €15.
TIP: Tickets are available for purchase online on the KTEL Chalkidikis website. Make sure to search Athitos – as Afitos is spelled that way there.
Transportation Within Afitos
Afitos is a compact village best explored on foot. For trips to nearby beaches or attractions, consider the following options:
- Car Rentals: Available in the village for day trips and exploring the broader Kassandra peninsula region.
- Taxis: Local taxi services are available for short trips. It’s recommended to agree on the fare before starting the journey.
- Public Buses: Limited services connect Afitos to neighboring villages and beaches. Schedules can be infrequent, so plan accordingly.
Note that ridesharing is not available on the Kassandra peninsula.
