So how do we do it? How do we travel to 5 star resorts and stay for weeks at a time? It is all through travel hacking. If you are unsure about what that is, start with our Travel Hacking 101 post.
The Chase Ink Business Preferred Credit Card is a fabulous way to get 120,000 Ultimate Rewards Points right now. That is exactly how we are spending a month in Bali at 5 star resorts – virtually for free. And who doesn’t like free travel?
Am I Eligible to Get A Business Credit Card?
You may be thinking to yourself, but am I even eligible to get a business credit card ? Well, if you are self-employed, freelance or have an occasional side gig you may be eligible.
But what types of gigs or side hussles qualify me for a business credit card? Here are a few: Driving for ride sharing apps, delivering food for food delivery apps, tutoring kids, buying and selling products, building social media sites, providing services to others (e.g. beauty services, moving lawns, dog walking etc.,) creating and writing for your website – or someone else’s, etc.,
So if you have a side hustle you may be eligible to get a business credit card. You don’t have to have a corporation or a registered LLC to apply. If the application asks you for your “tax business identification number” you can just list yourself as a sole proprietor and enter in you Social Security Number.
120K Ultimate Rewards Points
The Chase Ink Business Preferred Card is currently offering 120,000 Ultimate Rewards Points if you spend $8,000 within the first 3 month period. In previous offers one needed to spend $15,000 and the sign up bonus was lower. Therefore, for us this is the perfect time to sign up.
Ultimate Rewards Points are incredibly valuable. For instance, a night at a 5 star resort in Bali can be as cheap as 3,500 Ultimate Rewards Points.
That means that these 120,000 Ultimate Rewards Points from the Chase Ink Business Preferred card sign up bonus can get you over 30 free nights at that resort! And who doesn’t like free travel?!
Other Benefits of the Chase Ink Business Preferred Card
In my mind the huge sign up bonus is all that I am interested in. Yet, the Chase Ink Business Preferred Card offers quite a bit more which really adds to the value.
Triple the Points On Some Purchases
As we mentioned earlier, the Ultimate Rewards Points are quite valuable. So imagine getting 3 points for every dollar that you spend (up to a combined $150,000 in a year, starting from when you received the card) in the following categories:
- Travel (this includes even toll fares and parking)
- Shipping purchases
- Internet, cable and phone services
- Advertising made through social media or search engines
Get 5 Times Points On Lyft Rides
Through March 31, 2025 if you add your Chase Ink Business Preferred card to your Lyft account for payment, you will receive 5 times the Ultimate Rewards Points for every dollar spent.
Imagine getting a Lyft ride to the airport at a cost of $75 each way. So your $150 ride to the airport and back will get you 750 Ultimate Rewards Points (that is 20% to a night stay at that 5 star resort)!
Cell Phone Protection
Unfortunately I have dropped my cell phone too many times to remember and twice it did not end well – once in New Zealand and the other time in Taiwan, but I digress.
If you charge your monthly cell phone bill to this card and the phone is damaged or gets stolen, then you are eligible to receive $1,000 in compensation up to 3 times per year.
Primary Rental Car Coverage
The Chase Ink Business Preferred card offers primary car rental insurance. This means that if you rent a car and have an accident, your insurance will cover the damage, even if you’re at fault. This can be a huge benefit, as it can save you a lot of money on your car rental bill.
In addition, the Chase Ink Business Preferred Card also offers secondary car rental insurance. This means that if your own insurance doesn’t cover the damage, your Chase card’s insurance will kick in. This can be a lifesaver if you have a comprehensive and collision deductible, as it can help you to pay for the damage to your rental car.
Since we do not own a house or a car, we rent once in a while and find this to be a very valuable benefit as car insurance can bee expensive.
In addition, Chase does not seem to have any country exclusions (please double check though before travelling). And, for every $1 that you spend on the rental, you get 3 times Ultimate Reward Points!
Transfer Points to 11 Airline and 3 Hotel Partners
Another benefit to this card is the ability to transfer your Ultimate Rewards Points from Chase directly to 11 airline partners as well as 3 major hotel loyalty programs.
The Airline Partners are:
- Aer Lingus AerClub
- Air Canada Aeroplan
- Air France-KLM Flying Blue
- British Airways Executive Club
- Emirates Skywards
- Iberia Plus
- JetBlue TrueBlue
- Singapore Airlines
- KrisFlyer
- Southwest Rapid Rewards
- United MileagePlus
- Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
Why is this important? There are times when it is better to go directly through the airline or hotel program to get the best deal.
And the Hotel Loyalty Program Partners are:
- World of Hyatt
- IHG One Rewards
- Marriott Bonvoy
In addition, sometimes airlines or even hotels offer transfer bonuses to transfer your points from Chase Ultimate Rewards to them. So let’s say you want to fly on Air Canada and just recently Chase offered a 20% transfer bonus. Therefore if you transferred 20K Ultimate Rewards Points over to Aeroplan at that time, you would have received 24K Aeroplan points in your account.
Trip Cancellation or Interruption Insurance
If your trip is canceled or cut short by sickness, severe weather and other covered situations, you can be reimbursed up to $5,000 per person and $10,000 per trip for your pre-paid, non-refundable travel expenses, including passenger fares, tours, and hotels.
Therefore, if you put the expenses of the trip on this card and something happens, then you have some pretty impressive insurance to protect you. Furthermore, remember that you are getting 3 times the points on this purchase since it is a travel one!
Trip Delay Protection
If your flight (paid for on the card) is delayed by 12+ hours or requires you to stay overnight and fly out the following morning, you can be reimbursed for up to $500 in reasonable expenses. This includes lodging, meals, transportation to your hotel, and other necessary items.
To take advantage of this benefit, you will need proof from the airline that the flight was delayed, so keep all of the documentation and receipts. Then call the number on the back of the card as soon as you can to start processing the claim.
Baggage Loss Insurance
In addition to all of the other trip insurance and protections, this card also offers baggage loss insurance. With this card you are covered up to $3,000 per person per bag when luggage is lost or stolen while in the care of a travel provider.
Please note, that your jewelry, cameras and other electronics will only be covered up to $500 per person. This overall coverage also applies to your immediate family members travelling with you.
Baggage Delay Protection
We no longer travel with check in bags – just carry on for us. However, when we used to have our vegan “kitchen” we had to check our bigger bag. And that silly bag was delayed quite a few times!
Well, the Chase Ink Business Preferred Card covers baggage delay. Therefore, if you booked your trip on the card and your bag is delayed by 6 or more hours, then Chase will reimburse you for purchasing toiletries, clothing and a phone charger .
In addition, you can claim $100 per day up to 5 days that the bag is missing.
Purchase Protection
This card comes with some amazing travel protections. But wait, it also covers you for most items that you purchase on the card as well.
How does it work? Well, if a newly purchased item (can’t be second hand) is damaged or stolen within 120 days of purchase, then Chase will reimburse you up to $10,000 per claim and up to $50,000 per account. There are some limitations – like antiques, and motorboats, cars, etc.,
Extended Warranty Protection
We love that Chase offers a complimentary extended warranty on all purchases we make with our Ink Business Preferred card. This means that if we buy a product that has a manufacturer’s warranty of 3 years or less, I get an extra year of coverage at no charge.
This benefit covers up to $10,000 per warranty claim, with up to $50,000 in claims per account. So, if we buy a laptop that has a manufacturer’s warranty of 2 years, I’ll get a total of 3 years of coverage. If something goes wrong with the laptop in the third year, I can file a claim with Chase and they’ll reimburse me for the repair or replacement cost, up to $10,000.
This is a great benefit because it can save us a lot of money in the long run. It’s also one less thing to worry about when making a big purchase.
No Foreign Transaction Fees
Have you ever been on a foreign trip only to return to a much bigger credit card bill than you had anticipated? Well that may be due to the additional 3% foreign transaction fees that were tacked on to your purchases. Yup, made that rookie mistake before!
Well, this card does not charge any foreign transaction fees, so no surprises.
PRO TIP: Make sure that when you are abroad using this card (or any other credit card) that the teller bills you in the currency of the country that you are in and not in US dollars. Why? Well, the credit card company usually provides very unfavorable currency exchanges. So just stick to the local currency on your credit card bill and you will be fine,
Wrap Up
In our opinion, the Chase Ink Business Preferred card is the best credit card to sign up for right now. For us it is all about those very lucrative bank points. And the Chase Ultimate Rewards points are as good as they get for travel hacking our way to over the water bungalows in the Maldives and 5 Star Resorts all over the world including Bali.
The additional benefits are quite handy as well. For us, the cell phone protection as well as the rental car insurance coverage adds considerable value. Keep in mind that this card does come with a $95 annual fee.
What are your vacation goals? Have you started travel hacking yet? Let us know if you have any questions. We would love to help you get started earning points and miles to get to your dream destination.
